Linda Johnson, is a retired architect based in Lincolnshire. She began her trade in the late 1970’s. I popped along to have a small interview with her about her lifestyle, how she gets her inspiration, and what she did in her working days.
Hello Linda, How did you get started in the business?
Well, in the 1960’s there was a demand for architects. However, it wasn’t easy for me
to get work, as I am a lady. Many clients preferred men.
Yet, when I was employed, I designed small houses, public buildings and carried out a few base drawings for companies.
So where did you get your inspiration from?
There are always highs and lows in business, and I experienced many lows. But, I’m a optimist positive, which allows me to always keep going on.
I feel that if there’s a low, there is a high. Usually, my inspiration comes from observing dynamic buildings. They give me ideas and always help.
Where did you work?
I was a local girl, always have been, always will be. I wasn’t destined to move away and work. Therefore I worked in Lincolnshire- the county I had lived in all my life.
What kind of designs did you create?
I didn’t really design and make products as such, I planned the designs for buildings then employed people to carry out these actions.
If you could start over , what would you do differently ?
If I could go back, I would try and put myself out there a bit more. Show people myself out there a bit more. Show people home. If you have a talent, promote yourself, don’t demote!
