The Benefits of Eco Furniture
October 26, 2008
Landfill sites are full to capacity and the age of disposable seems to be coming to an end. On our journeys around Europe and the UK we are never ceased to be amazed at the amount of quality furniture that is available. Our Son has a removals and house clearance business and he is paid to take away some fabulous pieces that are unwanted and neglected.
With some imagination and some hard work these pieces can be brought back to life and given a totally new identity.
By combining antique fabrics, accessories and furniture we are creating not only new pieces of furniture but works of art which will last another lifetime.
In Europe there are Depot Ventes or the equivalent where towns people send their unwanted furniture and accessories. Here in the UK we have no such places but people organise themselves to sell their unwanted pieces at Car Boot Fairs. Again it is stunning when you see what people don't want.
There has to be new products or our economies would grind to a standstill but why throw away what still has life in it? Not everyone is creative but we are seeing more and more designers using vintage pieces to create something new.
I can see nothing wrong at all in doing this so long as it reaches current safety standards such as fire proofing etc.
Take a close look before you discard anything, has it got potential, close your eyes and imagine it in another colour or with another fabric. Eco can be chic.
